The blog experience

Monthly family cell phone bill: $221.77; Monthly cable/internet bill: $185.62; Five household computers: Don’t even want to think about the cost; Inter-active wireless game systems: Don’t even know what that means.  Optimal ability to communicate your thoughts instantly to others: Priceless or are we paying the price?

Blogging, chatting, face-booking, surfing, texting, e-mailing, instant messaging and I’m sure there are others that I’m not even aware of, have certainly overwhelmed our options for communicating with each other in the 21st century.  This old guy is entering the blogosphere for the first time with the anxiety of knowing that this actual post will be put on the record for all of the world to see and, if read (probably doubtful), to be judged, commented on and thrown in my face for years to come!!!!   Oh-no Barry, stop, relax, take a deep breath, it will be okay, just don’t say anything too stupid, nasty, embarrassing or controversial.

Our current technology has given us a wonderful gift to stay connected with others, to build and strengthen relationships, and to communicate our thoughts and opinions easily and instantaneously.  It also makes it easy to showcase some of our less desirable qualities as gossipers, complainers, tattlers, critics and unfair judges.  With increased technology, also comes increased responsibility.  Freedom of Speech is our inalienable right but it should never be abused to hurt others.  My goal is to use this new technology to have a little fun, talk about sports, entertainment and current events, and to have a laugh or two.    But remember, sign off the computer once in awhile and actually talk to someone, that’s what the $221.77 phone bill is for.

Well that sucks! Im my case gossiping, complaining, tattling, criticizing and unfairly judging people are some of my more desirable qualities.
I have a couple of other random thoughts as usual:
1 – Other forms of 21st century communication that I would like to add to your list. Morse Coding, Semophoring, Shadow Puppeting, Body Language, Emoticoning and my personal favorite – Freak Dancing.
2 -”With great power comes great responsibility.” Spiderman did not say anything about technology. Were you hanging upside down in the rain when you wrote this? Did your wife pull off your mask and lay a lip lock on you rain soaked face?
3 – Man I hate Heather Mills! I hope Linda comes back as a zombie and chews her other leg off. Now that would be priceless. Platinum Mastercard priceless!
